Terms of Service

Definitions and scope
When we say “Company”, “we”, “our”, or “us” in this document, we are referring to Jean Technologies.
When we say “Services”, we mean the Jean API, the Jean console at jeantechnologies.com, our documentation, and this website.
When we say “you” or “your”, we mean the organization that holds an account with us, and the people that organization authorizes to use it. Every account belongs to an organization. Keys, submissions, results, usage records and settings belong to the organization rather than to the individual who created them.
These Terms are versioned. The version at the top of this page is 2026-09-17, which is the same string the API records when an owner accepts on the organization’s behalf. We record the version accepted, who accepted it, and when.
When you use the Services, now or in the future, you are agreeing to the latest Terms. There may be times where we do not exercise or enforce a right or provision of the Terms; that does not mean we are waiving that right or provision. These Terms do contain a limitation of our liability.
Account terms
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for ensuring that the users you add to your organization do the same. Sign-in runs through Google Identity Platform, so we never see or store a password. We recommend enabling two-factor authentication on the account you sign in with.
- You may not use the Services for any purpose described in the acceptable use section below, and you may not permit your users to do so either.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your organization’s account, including the activity of every user and every key in it.
- An account must be registered by a person who is authorized to accept these Terms for the organization. Automated access belongs on the API, with a key, rather than in scripted use of the console.
API keys
- A key belongs to the organization, not to the person who created it. An owner can revoke any key in the organization at any time.
- A key is shown once, at creation. After that we store only a hash of it. We cannot show it to you again and we cannot recover it for you, because we do not have it. A lost key is revoked and replaced.
- Anything done with your organization’s key is treated as done by your organization.
- If you believe a key has leaked, revoke it and tell us at jonathan@jeantechnologies.com. We will help you work out what was done with it.
Acceptable use
Plainly, you agree not to:
- submit work you do not have the right to submit;
- use the Services to break the law, or to harm, harass, defraud or deceive people;
- attempt to reach another organization’s data, work around quotas or rate limits, or degrade the Services for anyone else;
- share keys outside your organization;
- resell access to the API as though it were your own service without our written permission;
- use a score or any other output of the Services as a factor in deciding a person’s eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance or education. The Services are not a consumer reporting agency and no output of the Services is a consumer report.
If we see use of that kind we will contact the organization’s owner. If it continues, or if it is serious, we may suspend the organization’s keys or terminate the account.
Verbal, written or other abuse, including threats of abuse or retribution, directed at a Jean Technologies employee or contractor will result in immediate account termination.
Metering, fees, and plan changes
- Usage is metered per request, one record per request. That meter is the record we bill from and apply quotas from.
- Pricing during early access is agreed with you directly and in writing. Nothing on this page sets a price.
- All fees are exclusive of taxes, levies or duties. Where we are required to collect a tax we will collect it and remit it to the taxing authority. Otherwise you are responsible for paying it.
- If we change the price we have agreed with you, we will give at least thirty days notice by email to the organization’s owner before the new price takes effect.
- We do not publish a refund schedule. If a charge looks wrong to you, write to jonathan@jeantechnologies.com and we will look at it and put it right if it is our error.
Cancellation and termination
- An organization owner can cancel at any time by writing to jonathan@jeantechnologies.com from the address on the owner account. We will confirm before anything is deleted.
- While your account is active you can retrieve your results and job traces through the API. Export anything you want to keep before you cancel.
- On cancellation, keys stop working and the organization’s data is deleted as described in our privacy policy. Usage records and the audit log survive that deletion; we keep them as business records.
- We have the right to suspend or terminate an account, and to refuse current or future use of the Services, where an organization breaches these Terms or where its use threatens the Services or the people who depend on them. Suspension means keys stop working. Termination means the account and its data are removed.
Modifications to the Services
The Services are in early access. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, any part of them. A feature that is here this month may not be here the next.
The API is described by a versioned OpenAPI contract, and that contract is the thing to build against. When we change the API, the change arrives through that contract and its version rather than as a surprise in production, and we will give notice of a breaking change where we can.
Availability, security, and privacy
- Your use of the Services is at your sole risk. We provide the Services on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not offer a service level agreement, we do not publish an uptime target, and we do not commit to a support response time. We do take availability seriously and we would rather hear from you than not.
- We may temporarily throttle or disable an organization whose usage threatens the performance of the Services for others. We will reach out to the owner first, except where the impact is immediate.
- We encrypt data in transit. Keys are stored only as hashes. Our privacy policy describes what we store, where it runs, and how long we keep it.
- People at Jean Technologies can reach your data only for the following reasons: to help with a support request you have made, and with your express consent; to recover from an error that has stopped an automated process partway through; to safeguard the Services, which means looking at logs and metadata and, where an abuse investigation requires it, at an account; and to the extent required by applicable law.
- If the EU General Data Protection Regulation or the UK General Data Protection Regulation applies to your use of the Services, write to jonathan@jeantechnologies.com and we will put a data processing addendum in place before you send us personal data.
Your data and how we may use it
What you submit stays yours. You grant us a limited license to process it in order to provide the Services to you, and we claim no ownership of it.
The default data use setting is scoring_only: submissions are used to compute the score you asked for and to return a result and a job trace, and for nothing else. An organization owner may opt into a broader setting:
scoring_only: submissions are used to produce your result and for nothing else. This is the default and it applies until an owner changes it.aggregate_ok: we may additionally publish aggregate statistics that include your usage.training_ok: we may additionally use your submissions to improve Jean models.
The setting is recorded per organization, with the setting chosen, who chose it, and when. An owner can change it at any time, including back to scoring_only. A change applies from the moment it is made. It does not reach back into work already done under the previous setting.
Files you upload are deleted after thirty days. Results and job traces are retained, so that a score you were given stays something you can go back and check.
Subprocessors
We use the following third parties to run the Services. They are the only subprocessors that handle data on our behalf:
- Google Cloud: hosting, database, and identity.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- PostHog: product analytics.
- Resend: transactional email.
If we add a subprocessor we will update this list and the same list in the privacy policy.
Content ownership and intellectual property
- All content submitted to the Services must comply with United States copyright law. If you believe content on the Services infringes your copyright, write to jonathan@jeantechnologies.com with enough detail for us to find it.
- You give us a limited license to use the content you submit in order to provide the Services to you, but we claim no ownership rights over it. Everything you submit remains yours.
- We do not pre-screen submissions, but we reserve the right, and not the obligation, to refuse or remove any content on the Services.
- The Company or its licensors own all right, title, and interest in and to the Services, including the intellectual property in them, and you obtain no ownership rights in the Services through your use of them. You may not duplicate, copy or reuse any portion of the HTML, CSS, JavaScript or visual design of the Services without our written permission, and you must ask before using our name or logo promotionally. This section does not apply to these policy documents, which are published under the license noted at the foot of the page.
- You agree not to reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any portion of the Services, or access to the Services, without our express written permission.
API terms
Any use of the API, including use through a third-party product that reaches the Services on your behalf, is bound by these Terms plus the following:
- You expressly understand and agree that we are not liable for any damages or losses resulting from your use of the API, or from a third-party product that reaches the Services through it.
- The API may not be used as part of an application that records, monitors, profiles or reports on a person’s activity without that person’s knowledge. We decide, at our discretion, whether an integration falls under this restriction, and we will require it to be removed.
- Abuse of the API, or excessively frequent requests to it, may result in temporary or permanent suspension of your organization’s access. We will attempt to warn the owner first. If your usage has caused or could cause downtime for others, we may cut access without prior notice.
Scores and other outputs
A score is the output of a model. It is a measurement, and measurements can be wrong.
We do not warrant that a score is accurate or fit for a particular purpose. Whether a score is good enough for yours is your judgement to make, and we would rather you treated it as evidence than as a verdict. Do not make a score the sole basis of a decision that materially affects a person, and see the acceptable use section for decisions the Services may not be used for at all.
Features and bugs
We design the Services with care, but there is no such thing as a service that pleases everybody. We make no guarantee that the Services will meet your specific requirements or expectations.
As with any software, the Services have bugs. We track the ones reported to us and work through them by priority, starting with anything that touches security or privacy. Not every reported bug will be fixed, and we do not guarantee error-free Services. Report one to jonathan@jeantechnologies.com.
Liability
We mention liability throughout these Terms, but to put it all in one place.
The Services are provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
You expressly understand and agree that the Company shall not be liable, in law or in equity, to you or to any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, lost profits, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, including damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data or other intangible losses, even if the Company has been advised of the possibility of such damages, resulting from: (i) the use or the inability to use the Services; (ii) the cost of procurement of substitute goods and services resulting from any goods, data, information or services purchased or obtained through the Services; (iii) unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; (iv) any decision made on the basis of an output of the Services; (v) statements or conduct of any third party on the Services; or (vi) any other matter relating to these Terms or the Services, whether as a breach of contract, tort including negligence whether active or passive, or any other theory of liability.
In other words: choosing to use the Services means making a bet on us, and the Services are early. We do our best to be a safe bet.
Governing law and disputes
Jean Technologies is incorporated in the State of Delaware. These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or to the Services, are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any such dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Castle County, Delaware. You and the Company each consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of those courts and waive any objection to venue in them.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, we change the effective date and the version at the top of this page. Because acceptance is recorded per organization with the version accepted, it stays clear which text an organization agreed to.
When a change is material, we will tell organization owners by email rather than quietly editing the text. Continued use of the Services after a change takes effect means the new Terms apply to you.
