Listen Labs, Outset, Simile, Fairgen and Jean: AI market research platforms compared

Two kinds of tool are merging: AI interviewers and digital twins. Here is what each platform leads with, who it sells to, and how to choose.

Jonathan Politzki, November 1, 2026. 6 min read.

AI market research has split into two camps that are now meeting in the middle. One camp runs AI-moderated interviews with real people: an AI interviewer that asks, listens and follows up, at a scale no team of moderators can match. The other camp builds digital twins, also called synthetic respondents or simulated audiences, that answer questions in place of people. Most platforms started in one camp and are adding the other.

This is a plain comparison of what each platform says about itself on its own website, as of November 2026. We make one of these products, so read our row with that in mind, and check every claim against a demo of your own.

If you mostly need real interviews

Listen Labs and Outset are the most established AI interviewers. Both run voice and text interviews in many languages and synthesize the results. Listen Labs became part of Salesforce in 2026, which matters if your company already lives in Salesforce. Outset has the most developed partner program, with panels, expert networks and consultancies reselling or co-selling it.

Jean's interviewer does the same core job: recruit to your spec, interview overnight, hand back transcripts, themes and counts by morning. The difference is what happens next. Every interview becomes a digital twin you can keep asking.

If you mostly need simulation

Simile and Fairgen lead with simulation. Simile pitches enterprise decision simulation broadly and emphasises validation. Fairgen builds twins from research data a company already holds and works with panel providers such as research firms to publish ready-made audiences. Synthetic Users is the most self-serve option and the only one in this group that publishes its prices.

The question to put to any simulation vendor is the same: compared with what? Ask how its synthetic answers score against real answers the vendor did not train on, and against the same people asked twice, which is the ceiling. Our post on evaluating synthetic respondents covers how.

Where Jean fits

Jean is built on the view that twins should never drift far from real people. Each twin traces back to a specific real interview: what the person said, why, and what they did. Studies run both at once, twins to explore and rank, real interviews to confirm. Agencies and panel companies can offer both under their own name.

How to choose

  • Need depth from real people this week: start with an AI interviewer.
  • Need to test many ideas against an audience you already understand: add twins, and check them against real answers first.
  • Selling research to clients: look for a partner program and white-label terms.
  • Need a price before a call: Synthetic Users publishes one; the rest, Jean included, quote per study.

Every platform here will run a pilot. Bring the same question to two of them and compare the answers with a small real sample. That one afternoon will tell you more than any comparison page, this one included.
