Frequently asked questions

The basics

What does Jean do?

Jean is an AI market research platform. It runs AI-moderated interviews with real people and lets you ask digital twins of your customers, so you get qualitative depth and quantitative scale from one study, usually overnight.

What is an AI-moderated interview?

An interview run by an AI interviewer instead of a human moderator. It follows a discussion guide, listens to the answer, and asks follow-up questions, by voice or text, in the respondent's language. You get the transcripts, the coded themes and the counts.

What are digital twins?

A digital twin is a model of a real person, built from what that person said in an interview, why they said it, and what they went on to do. A population of twins can be asked new questions in minutes and answers the way the real people would.

What is the difference between digital twins, synthetic respondents and AI personas?

The terms overlap. Synthetic respondents is the broad term for any AI that answers a survey or interview in place of a person. AI personas are often written descriptions handed to a general language model. Digital twins, as Jean uses the term, are grounded in a specific real person's interview, so each twin traces back to someone real.

Do I still need real interviews?

Yes. Twins are only as good as the real interviews behind them, and people change. Jean runs both in the same study: twins to explore and rank ideas quickly, real interviews to confirm the answer and keep the twins current.

Accuracy

How accurate are digital twins?

Accuracy is measured against what the real people said, and compared with two reference points: random guessing, and the same people asked the same question again, which is the ceiling any simulation can reach. Jean publishes its measurements on the open evaluations page.

Why not just ask ChatGPT or another assistant model?

Assistant models are trained to give the most agreeable answer, so asked the same question forty times they give nearly the same answer forty times. Real people disagree. Twins grounded in real interviews reproduce the spread of answers a real population gives.

When should I not trust synthetic results?

Be careful with genuinely new products nobody has experienced, with populations the twins were not built from, and with events after the interviews were run. In those cases run real interviews first and use twins second.

Using Jean

What can I use it for?

Concept testing, pricing research, message and creative testing, brand perception, churn and win-back interviews, feature prioritization, switching behavior, and segment reactions before a launch.

How fast is it?

Digital twins answer in minutes. AI-moderated interviews with real people usually complete overnight, with results by the next morning.

Who recruits the participants?

Jean recruits to your specification, or you can invite your own customers. Partners can run studies on their own panels.

Which languages are supported?

Interviews run in the respondent's own language, by voice or text.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the study. Tell us what you are trying to learn and we will come back with a plan and a price.

Partners

Can agencies and panel companies offer Jean under their own brand?

Yes. Agencies, consultancies and panel companies can offer AI-moderated interviews and digital twins to their clients under their own name, without building software or training a model.

How do I get started?
